Chapter 696: An Ambitious Fenn

“Doesn’t matter,” Runka didn’t bat an eye at the change, “Our target is Duketace, and him alone. Whether or not we kill the rest of his family is our wish.”

“Is it alright to leave them be though?” Pilkan asked, “Wouldn’t they exact revenge on Hitlawn after losing a family member?”

“You know Duketace’s character,” Runka smiled as he gazed at Pilkan, “So, what do you think they would do?”

“They’ll flee to make their own Clan in the future.” Pilkan sighed, “They wouldn’t even bat an eye to betray each other if it was beneficial to them.”

“Indeed, so we only need to complete our mission.” Runka nodded, “There’s no reason to risk our lives to kill the rest. We’re not getting paid for it anyway.”

He patted Pilkan’s shoulder, “The way to survive the longest as an assassin is by staying to the limits of the mission. Never work more than necessary. The pay is lucrative enough anyway.”

“So, we are better off spending the excess money to train and develop ourselves.”

‘So, they aren’t just bloodthirsty murderers.’ Pilkan nodded in response as under Heela’s directions, they began to make a trap for Duketace, ignoring the rest. But, unlike the rest, Pilkan didn’t plan on letting any of the family of four scot-free.

They had caused a lot of sufferings for his family. So, he didn’t plan to sit still until he exacted his revenge. Besides, he focused on his Dreamland, noticing that his Invoked Spirit was creating various weapons on its own to practice its ability.

Usually, he would have to do this manually. But in his case, his Invoked Sprit pretty much did everything on its own. He was just a form of housing for it.

‘What exactly are you?’

The Human Invoker Crystal he stole wasn’t any different from the other Superior Grade Human Invoker Crystals. So, he didn’t understand just how these changes appeared to his Nascent Soul.

‘But first, I must kill Duketace and his family. They are the only ones aware of what I did.’ Pilkan nodded, clenching his hand into a fist.

“That bitch ran away with all our valuables!” Duketace grunted in anger, hurriedly looking through the other bags nearby to see that they all had been emptied, the valuables inside replaced with trash.

The shocking thing was the fact that he wasn’t even aware of when this happened. Sure, his wife, Sturrala was indeed the one carrying all the luggage by the end of their journey.

But everyone had an eye on her all along. So, it didn’t make sense how she stole the items. Moreover, when walking toward Heppeturn Town, she didn’t carry any luggage with her.

So, it raised the question of where she had hidden the treasures and how she had achieved it.

“Dad, we have to hurry and catch up to them,” Fenn said in a hurry, taking out a bottle of medicine from his bag, and opening its lid to consume it.

“What’s that?” Duketace asked in surprise, his eyes widening to see the label on the bottle, ‘Superior Grade Mental Strength recovery medicine? How did he get his hands on such a precious medicine?’

Within a couple of seconds, he thought things through as his eyes shone with a cunning glint, bringing out his metallic eagle that attacked Fenn, startling him.

And in his fluster, he dropped the medicine that was caught by the metallic eagle. Grabbing hold of it, Duketace grinned cunningly, downing the contents immediately, ‘Once I catch up to that bitch, I’ll reclaim all my treasures…’

His eyes turned heavy as he felt drowsy. Only then he stared in alarm at the figure of Fenn that grinned casually.

“That’s a drug to knock you out.” Fenn said and retreated, watching Duketace struggle to remain awake while his body continued to turn more and more sluggish, “Its effect only lasts for a short duration, but it’s pretty potent.”

“You…fucker. Are you even my son?” Duketace grunted as he collapsed to the ground, falling unconscious.

“It’s precisely because I’m your son that I know the kind of shitty human you are.” Fenn snorted in disdain as he went through Duketace’s belongings and pocketed any valuables that he held on dear, surprised when he found a badge, “I see, so that was your plan.”

Fenn then brought out his eagle, boarded it, and flew in a direction of his choosing. He didn’t harm his dad, for that would be dangerous.

Aware that his dad was the target of their pursuers, he hoped for Duketace to escape for as long as possible to buy enough time for his escape.

If they were together, there was a fair chance that Hitlawn would kill him too, just for his Mental Fragments.

But with Duketace buying him enough time, he would vanish before Hitlawn captured his dad. As the drug’s effects only lasted for a few minutes, he was assured of his plan.

“It’s a pity mother stole most of those valuables, but,” Fenn wasn’t concerned, “I wasn’t hoping to rely upon those material riches anyway.”

The reason was simple. The type of Clan he wished to build was rather different from the norm as he planned to add the traits of humans into his eagle. After all, the treasure he stole from the Lan Clan allowed him to modify his Invoked Spirit.

The changes he wished to create were one that allowed him to grow using Mental Fragments from humans, but the Invoked Spirit wasn’t of a human. The Lan Clan hadn’t attempted this because they weren’t aware of the treasure’s abilities.

Fenn had secretly ventured into the sealed Human Conjurer’s Grave, obtaining information and a method regarding this treasure’s use.

And for his plans to fruition, he had to find a rather secluded village. Money and valuables didn’t mean anything in secluded villages, the reason he had no need for them in the first place.

With that, Fenn flew for a fair distance before taking a casual walk, having travelled pretty far away from pursuit. He then pulled open a map secured in his clothes, observing the landscape to see how much further he had to travel.

He had long since prepared for everything the moment he decided to intrude into the Lan Clan’s treasury.
